SEDF Conference 2012 – now includes speakers on Packaging and wider Eco-Design
We’re pleased to announce two new speakers will be joining us on 19 June – broadening the sustainability theme of our conference to cover issues facing all designers today.
Convenience culture versus the environment - a packaging design dilemma
Laurel Miller of AM Associates, will be bringing more than 20 years’ experience in packaging design to the conference and sharing her very real approach as to how environmental factors such as recycling, composting, lightweighting, reusability and material choice can affect design.
The challenge for packaging designers is to balance consumerism with sustainability. As Laurel says, “It is important to understand that environmental constraints need not crush creativity and can make the design challenge more exciting”.
What exactly does sustainability mean and how as designers can we constructively contribute?
Claire Potter of Claire Potter Design is a specialist in eco design, using unusual, reclaimed or recycled materials to create a fresh and eclectic British style and she brings her fresh and innovative approach to ‘green design’ to the SEDF Conference, clarifying what “sustainability” actually means to us as consumers, businesses – and importantly, designers.
Laurel and Claire join our already confirmed speakers Wayne Hemingway, Peter Murray, Oliver Heath and Paul Zara.
